Sita Dorairaj offered devotional prayer at the beginning of the program. Thereafter Prema Santhnam welcomed Ash Kalra, a council member and a Guest speaker with flowers. M Santhnam then introduced the Guest Speaker.
Ash Kalra,a Guest speaker praised the Seniors for their positive role in building up the successful careers of their children in USA. He added that the success of Indian American in the USA is also due to the sacrificed made by their Parents. Therefore we should strengthen our Heritage and Culture. He also informed that First time 'Diwali' was celebrated in the San Jose city Hall. He said We are also planning to take business delegation to India in order to further improve trade relation between India and USA.
B K Rao gave talk on his impression regarding India. He observed that the life styles of Indian people are changing very fast. Besides that India have now accepted the concept of Global village. He observed that Andhra and Telangana situation shows that still Indians have not learnt how to run the Democracy. He added that some demands are more political then rational. He concluded that politicianS purpose is different then People. He also pointed out that the lower level of Godaveri river has also created development problems for the Telangana Region. There fore Developement problem of Telangana may not be considered as a sole reason for creating New State of Telangana. He said that 'The women reservation Bill' which is now pending in the Loksabha is very important legislation. He further pointed out that passing of the said Bill may bring major changes in the Indian social life.( i.e. In the spheres of family life, kitchen management and even in the health care)
Kalyani Subramonian talked on the ' Trend in the food habits of American'. It has created very big problem of obesity. She said that the food habits of people are more for pleasure then Health. She informed that 54% of children in Santa Cruz County are prone to obesity.The 7% childern between the group of 6 to 11 year are in danger group relating to decease.(i.e. Deceases like Blood pressure, Cholesterol, Diabetes etc.) Therefore it is advisable to eat healthy food like Green Salad,Vegetables,Fresh Food, fish and to take green tea. She concluded that it is better to avoid food with high Sugar,Salt and Fat.
Smt Jayshree Vasavada,Smt Varsha Desai,Mr Puranik,Hari Verma,Ramji Patel,Krishnamurthy and Dr V Jotwani also participated in the Discussion.
Sita Dorairaj presented songs in Hindi and Tamil. It was received very well
