The Current Events Program as on 01/05/06

The Current Events program was conducted on 01/05/06 at ICC, Sunnyvale, between 11am to 1.00pm. Mr.B K Rao IAS (Retd) was a chief guest and Bharat Desai conducted the program.
Mr. T D Subramanian presented the latest development of America very analytically. He said that the Iraq war, which is costing 80 to 100 billion dollars per year increasing the deficit and tax, cut is also making effect thereon. However all these strain on economy has increased the burden on Poor Society.
He also briefed regarding hurricane and damaged done by it on various part of USA. He also gave the ideas regarding Bush administration policy on Environment at world conference at Canada.
He said denial of extension of ‘Patriot Act’ was also meant to censor the Bush Administration. The misuse of provisions of said act indirectly encroaches upon the privacy and liberty of American citizens. He further informed regarding the prisons created in Europe to interrogate the terrorists. ‘It is now being confirm officially’ he said. This measures also being opposed by certain quarter on several reasons.
Thereafter A Narayanswamy informed regarding the progress made by India in the spheres of science, technology, communication, transport, education, power industry, investment and employment generation thereon. He substantiated by giving the latest figures. He also mentioned about the various young talents coming up in India.
Bharat Desai also gave few details regarding the latest developments in the world. He informed regarding the various studies carried out for decease like diabetes, Alzheimer, aid, migraine etc. He also discussed the latest devepements regarding Tibet and Iran. He gave the present prices and expected future prices of the important commodities like oil, gold, copper, platinum, and commercial/ residential real estate.
Thereafter chief guest Mr. Rao gave his impressions regarding his official tour to Russia, Sweden, Chile, and UK. He was very much impressed by the architecture beauties of metro stations of Moscow. However he made very important observations that he found Russians who were of senior age and who had seen the revolutions were more or less delusion then with the Russian economy. It is one of the reasons, which also effected the fall of Russia thereafter. Besides that he observed that Sweden believed in compensating the inefficiency. The airlines were ready to pay 15% rebate on the next flight if the previous flight is late. He also informed regarding the natural resources of Chile i.e. fishing, copper etc. He could see the ghost towns in Chile, which were deserted because of closing of Mines. He concluded his talk by praising the contribution made by Indians like Sri C P Srivastav and Dr Nagendrasing in respect of the Maritime Law at the International Maritime Conference,London.
The program was well received by members and Eminent Seniors like Dr Jagdish Rustagi, Sri Akur Srinivasan, Mr. Kamalratnam, Mr. Dhanu Siva and Mr. Pradeep Joshi also contributed further during the discussion.
