Mrs Varsha Desai recited Serva Dharma prayer at the beginning of the program.
Thereafter Nagin Jagada presented his talk on 'Buddha' wherein he gave the message of Buddha briefly. He explained that' The Right of view, thought, speech, action, efforts, awareness, livelihood and concentration are the principles of the Buddhism, but the Devotion, Satya and Tyag are the foundations on which it stands. The Buddha preached the Vipasana mediation on the later stage, which is very scientific. It is meant for personal purification.
Bharat Desai thereafter introduced the guest speaker Pravin Sheth and invited him for talk on 'The Meaning of Gandhi Today'.
Pravin Sheth then gave talk wherein he stated that Gandhi is still respected and his teachings are very much relevant. He said that' On going Violence, Racial conflict and Terrorism has created global crisis, which has made Gandhism more and more relevant even today. He added that 'It may not give solutions of all our problems but we can find road map from the same. The noble prizewinner Dr Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, and Dash Band Toto are the example who were inspired by Gandhism. Even present day youth are very much inspired by Gandhian thought in view of feedback received by them from books, media’s and movies related to Mahatma Gandhi.
He described Mahatma Gandhi in many roles at different time and period. He said Mahatma Gandhi' role against the Racial discrimination in the South Africa was different stage of his life. He gained many things from the said struggle. Then came his role as a leader of freedom struggle. He was then talking in the language of the masses and observed simplicity to carry them along with him. He talked about Hindu Muslim unity and opposed the partition of the country. He was sure that it would create lot of killing and suffering. Therefore his role after partition was for creating communal harmony. He was moving in communal affected area of Bengal after partition. After his death the period came when he received lot of attention of western world through movie on his life by British Director Richard Edinburgh. The Movie 'Gandhi' made him popular in the west and they started reading his writing. It was period when Gandhism spreaded universally. It is now period when Gandhiism revived once again through movies like' Lage Raho Munnabhai, 'My father Gandhi' and Exhibition showing Gandhi's life organized by Aditya Birla. Besides that Ghandhiji's experiments of Padyatra, Satyagraha etc are being adopted by present generation, which are very much projected by electronic media. Pravin sheth concluded that all these stages and developments shows that Ghandhism is very much relevant and alive in present world. Thereafter Pravin Sheth gave his comments on the questions raised by members,
Rochit Gupta a young guest artist was introduced by Bharat Desai.
He presented Mohmadali's famous Gazals, Bhajans, and old Movies songs on instrument. He also sang two Bhanjans which were very dear to Mahatma Gandhi. It was received very well.
Pragnaben and Laxmiben presented flower bucaus to Pravin Sheth, Nagin Jagada and Rochit Gupta on the behalf of India Community Center respectively.
