Current Events as on 3rd August 09,Monday(88TH SESSION)

The above program was conducted by Bharat Desai at India Community Center, Cupertino,CA. Sita Dorairaj and Padma Rajgopal offered prayers at the begining of the program. Bharat Desai introduced Mathangi Sundararajan a guest speaker, including prominent seniors B K Rao and Dr V K Jotwani who gave talk in the program.
Thereafter a Guest Speaker Matangi Sundararajan made power point presentation on Batik. She stated that art of Batik has its roots in India, and Indonesia. It was brought to western countries by Dutch people.She further added that the natural colors from fruits, flowers, plants and indigo are used in the Batik. She said art of Batik is very old and it is mainly located in Gujarat,Rajasthan and North West India. It is also printed on handwoven Silk or on Cotton cloths. Indian artist are using costume design and jewllery from Ajanta and Chola Mandal. She also explained how the design of Batik are printed on clothes. However she concluded that the art of Batik is slowly disappearing.
B K Rao stated that 'IMF' and 'World Bank introduced the idea of Globalization among develop counties. He referred the comment of Aditya Birla a prominent industralist of India regarding the Globalization. Birla said that we will show the World' Model of Management' through Globalization. 'The take over Steel plants by Mittal and Tata in abroad proves him right' He added that 'Even Pepsi has CEO of Indian origin'. He further stated that the Globalization encourages the high quality goods and high productivity but with law wages. He stated that the Health Care, Lebour, Overtime and disability laws etc are required to be amended in order to sustain in the world market. The Globalization some time hit developeing countries. He quoted a example of Zambia wherein once copper was sold at lower price then its productive cost. However he said that the Globalization makes us compitative nebour with use of technology and skilled management.
He also ponted out the ugly cosequences of Globalization wherein well being of huminity is being ignored. It also implied that persuit of happiness is in persuit of profit.He concluded with the statement that 10% population of America is haveing 85%of investment which is self explanatory.
Dr V K Jotwani also spoke on 'Medical Myths. He explained that some of the misconception have arised in medical system due to wrong beliefs.
He said some people avoid to remove catract thinking that it will not make much difference. However catract can be removed successfully with new the technology and can also correct the eye sight. It is a wrong impression that too much use of computor adversely effect the eyes. It may makes once eyes dry and tired. He added that vitamins can be taken through suitable medicine. some people thinks that one can get it only by eating vegetables like carrot etc. Some people avoid glasses as it may make their eyes more weak. However glasses always help one to read the matter clearly and sharply. He concluded that some of the wrong beliefs adversely affects the health of the people.
Bharat Desai introduced a Guest artist Rhucha Joshi who presented classical and devotional songs. The musical presentation was received very well by members.
M L Swamy did summing up of the program and proposed vote of thanks.
