The 96th Session of Current Events was conducted by Bharat Desai at India Community Center, Cupertino, CA. The session was opened with prayer given by Ramanad Dinker. Bharat Desai introduced SVR Parangusam, Former Director General,(Transport), Ministry of Transport, Government of India and Urmila Talwalkar,Writer, Thinker and Critic.
SVR Parangusam made power point presentation on the 'Nuclear Security' which was interesting and very informative. He made the reference regarding throwing of Atom Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki by America during the end of last world war. He described the amount of destruction it brought to people of those Japanese Cities and the after effect of the same. He informed that thousands of people died thereafter due to radiation(i.e. Radiation leads to deceases like Cancer, Tumer and Genetic damages.).
He further informed that One hundred and eighty nine countries of the world signed 'The Nuclear Proliferation Treaty in the year 1970 regarding Atomic Arms. However four countries refuse to sign the same. India and Pakistan, also refused to sign the said Treaty.However the Atomic Treaty was revised and signed on 8th April 2010.
He also explained the various theories the basis on which the Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs are manufactured. He also briefed regarding the number of atomic weapons possess by the various Nuclear Power Countries. He said as per example USA may be having about 10500 atomic weapons while Russia may be having about 10000.
He also referred the last world leaders meeting on the 8th of April 2010 at Washington DC. Therein world leaders discussed the important problem regarding the Nuclear Security and the steps are to be taken to reduces the atomic weapons. However SVR Parangusam concluded that steps taken by all Nuclear Power Countries are not adequate to protect the Weapons.
Urmila Talwalkar gave very analytical talk on 'The life and Death' Wherein she described death by consent or by desire. She added that some people ask for the death due to physical suffering while some are condemned to death by court of law. Even some time people wants die as they feel that their work is over and no use of further living. In this connection she she quoted the theme of Marathi movie 'Sukhant'. Besides that she also added that Saint like Bhishmapitamah, Gyaneshwar,Vinoba Bhave desired a peaceful and pleasant death. however she concluded that death on mercy ground is still controversial.
Dr Darshana Nadkarni, a Guest Speaker gave talk on ' The stress and Relaxation'. She gave causes of stress i.e. Worries, Anxiety, Personal problems. etc. However stress gives adverse effect on the Heart problem,Diabetes,Headache,Insomnia, Constipation,Digestion,Memory,Depression etc. However she pointed out that stress can be reduced by Exercise, Walking, Yoga, Deep Breathing, Meditation, Socialization, etc. She concluded that to reduce the stress the life style will have to be changed.
B K Rao, Dr V Jotwani, S Krishnamurti, Ramji Patel and Akur Srinivasan took active part in the discussion
Renoo Nathan presented the classical Music along with Devotional song at the end. It was received very well.
Ramji Patel gave summing up wherein he complimented all participants. He also proposed vote of thank at the end.
